About the Speakers

Anteneh Abiy 

Anteneh Abiy

Dr. Anteneh Abiy is an experienced hydrogeologist with skills in the application of statistical and numerical groundwater flow and contaminant transport modeling. Anteneh has earned a PhD in Geosystem Science from Florida International University. He has MS degree is Geosciences and a second master’s degree in Integrated Watershed Management and Hydrology received from Florida International University and Cornell University respectively. His BS degree in Applied Geology acquired from an Ethiopian University.

Anteneh has more than eight years of experience in filed investigation, research, and academic settings. His latest experience  before moving to the states in 2014, was serving a  geo-hydrologist in the former Blue Nile River Basin (Abbay Basin) Authority  in Ethiopia, where he was involved in water resources geo-database development, hydrological modeling, groundwater modeling, and groundwater contamination mapping. Some of his works in rainfall runoff modeling, effect of climate change in rainfall and runoff changes, and groundwater recharge-discharge modeling are published in book chapters and peer reviewed journals.

Currently, Dr. Anteneh is a hydrogeologist in the Everglades Foundation where his work focuses on groundwater modeling, environmental data analytics, water quality data evaluation and data visualization using a suite of modeling and programming tools. 

 

Piper Hodson
Student Services Coordinator and Director of NRES Online Graduate Programs
Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Piper Hodson is Student Services Coordinator and Director of NRES Online Graduate Programs for the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. With more than two decades of undergraduate and graduate student advising experience, 14 of them in NRES, and Piper will provide an overview of graduate education in the U.S., how to decide what type of program would best serve your goals, and how to prepare to be a competitive applicant.
