Staff of Axiom Environmental (John Dorney and Sandy Smith) and Eaton Scientific (Larry Eaton) will conduct a 4-day course on the latest version (Version 4.11, September 1, 2010) of the North Carolina methodology for identifying intermittent and perennial streams and their origins.  This class is organized by and taught through the NC Association of Environmental Professionals (NCAEP).  This lecture and field course will focus on the method that is the standard method used across the state and the Southeast by the NC Division of Water Resources (DWR) and many local governments to identify intermittent and perennial streams and their origins.  The course will be taught in and near Raleigh, NC and will focus on streams located in three different Level IV ecoregions – Northern Outer Piedmont, Triassic Basin, and Rolling Coastal Plain, in varying condition.  The class will be taught at a park shelter in Biltmore Hills Park in Raleigh in keeping with Covid19 safety protocols.  Also, in keeping with those protocols, students will be asked to use their own personal vehicles to and from field sites (see the longer note below).

This class is offered in coordination with the DWR and follows the same curriculum as the course taught by DWR instructors.  Upon successful completion, students will receive a Certificate of Training which can be used with delegated or designated local governments.

Class fees: $790 members / $815 nonmembers.

Message Regarding Coronavirus – Updated May 2022
It is difficult to say what the status of the COVID-19 pandemic will be in June 2022.  The statement below assumes that the status of the pandemic will remain the same as it stands at the time of writing in May 2022.

It is our top priority to look after the safety of our instructors and workshop participants during the COVID-19 Pandemic.  The facility at Biltmore Hills Park is a covered pavilion with picnic tables in an open-air setting.  This space is large enough to accommodate the workshop and allow for adequate social distancing.  Wearing of masks or face coverings is recommended when social distancing is not possible.  Participants will be asked to drive company or private vehicles to our outdoor field trips to minimize exposure.  Hand sanitizer will be made available to workshop participants.  Registered participants are asked to abstain from international or domestic air travel for two weeks prior to the start date of the workshop.  We ask that if you or any member of your household has exhibited COVID-19 related symptoms or received a positive COVID-19 test within two weeks of the start date of the workshop to please notify us and a refund will be issued.  If it is determined by the NCAEP or the instructors that the workshop cannot safely proceed, participants will be offered a refund, or their registration will be saved for a later workshop when the pandemic situation has become safer.

Please feel free to contact John Dorney at [email protected] or by phone at 919-522-6364 if you have any additional questions.  More information and online registration:Surface Water Identification Training & Certification (SWITC)
