Environmental students are the future environmental professionals.  Many companies as well as state and local governments offer paid and unpaid intern opportunities.  Below is a listing of contacts students should consider if seeking an internship in an environmental discipline.  Please acknowledge that you obtained this contact information from the NAEP website in your communication.

To our Members, thank you for your response in this effort.

HUD Office of Environment and Energy

The HUD Office of Environment and Energy (OEE) has limited openings for summer interns with a background in environmental sciences or environmental studies. OEE is the delegated authority at HUD for NEPA compliance and responsible for environmental regulatory oversight within HUD. Currently the office is working on a wide array of policy issues, serving on CEQ task forces and providing technical guidance on issues such as re-building along the Gulf Coast in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. HUD programs are taking the lead in Gulf Coast re-development. If you are interested in a summer intern position for 2006, please email Ted Leavengood and he will see that your resume is directed properly. Applications should be received as quickly as possible.

At Dru Associates Inc we perform a variety for field and office work that can make use of student interns, in the field ranging from wildlife inventories (observations, trapping, habitat evaluations) to wetland functional assessments and water quality testing, to planting wetlands (in the mud up to your knees), and we use statistical and GIS data analysis in the office, including serious scientific reference research on  endangered species and sensitive habitats.   Some intern work can be paid, while some of it just offers experience.  The schedule involves regional travel (mostly one day trips) and the profile of project types changes unpredictably.  A drivers license and flexibility are necessary.
